Phone Disk (PC) - FAQs
Phone Disk isn't remembering my registration code.
There's a bug which we recently fixed so please download Phone Disk again from our site.
Why can't I browse all of the apps installed on my device?
Because the iPhone runs an OS that is a lot more like a Mac than a PC, hacking the iPhone in Windows is a lot more challenging sometimes. We're working on getting a complete list of apps that are on the device, but right now we have to list all the apps manually before Phone Disk will see them. If you know, or want to try and guess the bundle ID of an app, then you can try to add that app to the list from the Phone Disk prefs menu. But check back soon and hopefully we'll get the full app list hacked soon.
How to I access the "real-root" of my device?
While non-jailbroken iPhones can see most files on the iPhone, if you jailbreak your iPhone you can see and everything. If you've jailbroken your device but can't see all the files, make sure you've downloaded and installed afc2add from Cydia. Also make sure the real-root option is checked in the Phone Disk prefs menu.
Is Phone Disk really free? What's the catch? Why are you doing this?
We're giving away Phone Disk for free till December 1, 2010. Visit the Phone Disk home page to get the activation code. There's no catch. Phone Disk is a great program and we highly recommend it to everyone. We're giving it away free because it's brand new and we want to build a solid user base to help spread the word.
Why do I need iTunes installed to run Phone Disk?
In order for Phone Disk to talk with the iPhone, it needs to speak the iPhone's language. To do this Phone Disk uses some of the components (primarily the Mobile Device framework) that is bundled in when you install iTunes.
What the main difference between Phone Disk and iPhone Explorer?
The main differences between Phone Disk and iPhone Explorer are:
  • Phone Disk mounts the iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch to the native file system of the computer. Thus, with Phone Disk you can access files on your iDevice directly through any program installed on your computer (such as Word, Power Point, Photoshop, etc...). iPhone Explorer uses its own custom interface to view and modify files.
  • iPhone Explorer is planned to be maintained as 100% freeware, whereas beginning December 1, Phone Disk will cost $10 for new users.
