iPhone Explorer (PC) - FAQs
How do I access the real root?
Accessing the real root requires your iPod Touch or iPhone to be Jailbroken. Additionally, in many cases you will also need to download afc2add from Cydia or Rock.
How do I copy files from or to the device?
Everything is drag and drop.
How do I use the sync button?
At the moment this particular feature is being worked on. Everything is still drag and drop.
My Iphone is jailbroken with afc2add but I still can not access my real root. What should I do?
Make sure that you have updated Iphone Explorer to version .991 and that you are not using version .99 as that particular release had a bug that cut off all access to the real root.
Why can I not drop things into Iphone Explorer?
If you are running under windows vista or 7 you may need to run Iphone Explorer in administrator mode.
How do I transfer apps from my device to my computer?
You can copy apps to your computer using iTunes. Just right click on your device, then "transfer purchases."
How do I run in Administrator mode?
To run in administrator mode you need to press control and shift while right clicking on the Iphone Explorer icon. It should bring up a menu that will allow you to select run as admin. This will only work with windows vista and 7.
Why can't I see all the apps on my device?
Because the iPhone runs an OS that is a lot more like a Mac than a PC, hacking the iPhone in Windows is a lot more challenging sometimes. We're working on getting a complete list of apps that are on the device, but right now we have to list all the apps manually before iPhone Explorer will see them.
What the main difference between Phone Disk and iPhone Explorer?
The main differences between Phone Disk and iPhone Explorer are:
  • Phone Disk mounts the iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch to the native file system of the computer. Thus, with Phone Disk you can access files on your iDevice directly through any program installed on your computer (such as Word, Power Point, Photoshop, etc...). iPhone Explorer uses its own custom interface to view and modify files.
  • iPhone Explorer is planned to be maintained as 100% freeware, whereas beginning December 1, Phone Disk will cost $10 for new users.
