Introduction

Your iPhone, iPad, or iPod is a storage device, like a flash drive for your music, photos, documents, and other files. When you connect your flash drive to your computer, it can access, read/write, and use the stored files. iExplorer can mount your device to your computer and turn it into a flash drive. This links your device data to your computer's native file system where it can be accessed in desktop applications in the save/open dialogs as well as appearing in Finder or Windows Explorer.

What you will need

  • iExplorer
  • An iPhone, iPad, or iPod
  • USB cable to connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod
  • A Mac or PC with iTunes installed

Before you begin

If you don't already have iExplorer installed download it by clicking the button below. For more detailed installation instructions, click here.

Automatic mounting is useful if you need to make regular or frequent connections and don't want to manually mount your device every time. If you only need a one-time or occasional connection, see the Manually Mounting a Directory tutorial.

To start automatically mounting a directory, just open iExplorer and connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod.

You'll first see the Device Overview screen. You can then navigate to Media or Apps in the left-hand sidebar.

To choose a directory for automatic mounting, right-click on the directory and select Mount as Disk from the context menu.
